The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior (2008)

“Scratch any hero, Mathayus, and you will find a monster lurking inside.” – Astarte

Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Feb 2019)

Brief Synopsis – Years before he became The Scorpion King, a young man who is a fierce fighter joins an elite group of bodyguards

My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve been avoiding seeing ever since it came out 11 years ago.

The fact that Darren of Movie Reviews 101 chose it for next month’s Franchise MOTM at the LAMB made me take the plunge especially since this is the second of the 5 films in the series that I have now committed myself to watching within the next week or so.

I’m still confused as to why this film was made because the main character from The Mummy Returns (2001) is interesting in that film, but any subsequent films about his life before or after is just extraneous.

This film is even more boring than the film before it in the series and was torture to actually get through.

Nothing really happens throughout the film and the pacing is terrible.

It meanders along really slowly and despite a few nicely choreographed fight scenes, nothing of any real importance transpires.

I’m still in shock that this film was even made and the fact that I have 3 more of these to get through this week, isn’t very enticing to think about.

The production value of this film is quite low and the fact that this was a direct to video release says it all.

Bottom Line – Another boring film in the series. Nothing really happens and the story meanders along without anything exciting occurring at all.  This film was pure torture to try and get through and I can’t believe that I still need to get thru 3 more of these.  The production value of this film is quite low and I’m still a bit surprised that this was even made.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This film is a prequel to a prequel of a sequel of a remake. That is, it is the prequel to The Scorpion King (2002), which is a prequel to The Mummy Returns (2001), which is a sequel to The Mummy (1999) which can be considered as a loose remake of The Mummy (1932). (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
