Number of Times Seen – Twice (Theater in ’92 and 4 Mar 2019)
Brief Synopsis – A famous Hollywood actress discovers the secret to a long life and uses it to try and outwit her former roommate who has become her rival.
My Take on it – This is a film that I saw in the theater when it came out and never really had much of a desire to rewatch until now.
The story is quite interesting and they do things in a way that makes it quite fun to watch.
Robert Zemekis is able to utilize his special effects magic and make this film look so real despite the fact that it is too fantastical to even be considered somewhat realistic.
The cats of this film is great and they chose the three leads quite well because they all shone through here.
The standout among the trio is Bruce Willis who is able to tackle a role so different from his usual fair that it’s further proof of his true (non-action) acting ability.
Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn are also both great here but their antics get a bit tiresome towards the end and it’s hard to care about either of them by that point.
They have some great cameos of ‘supposedly’ dead celebrities which is fun to try and spot.
In the end, things find a way to bounce back and become more interesting and that has much to do with some funny scenes along with a poignant message about life that works quite well.
Bottom Line – Great story that is so much fun to watch. Zemekis uses his special effects magic in this film to make it all look so real even when the story is too fantastical to be considered realistic. The cast is great and the three leads are all spectacular in their roles. Willis actually stands out among the trio since his character is farthest from the kind of role that he usually portrays in films. The story gets a bit tiresome towards the end, but is able to bounce back due to some very funny scenes and a message that works really well. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Helen drinks the potion on October 26, 1985. This is the present date in Back to the Future (1985), which was also directed by Robert Zemeckis. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
