Planet Terror (2007)

“Try not to shoot yourselves. Don’t shoot each other. But especially… don’t shoot me. ” – Sheriff Hague

Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Mar 2019)

Brief Synopsis – After a zombie plague is released by accident, a group of survivors try to keep themselves safe while hunting the infected.

My Take on it – This is a film that I heard about when it came out, but never really had much of a desire to see.

This is a completely crazy Zombie film that takes things to the very extreme yet still manages to do what it sets out to do.

From a purely film making perspective, this film, directed by Robert Rodriguez looks really good because it is meant as an homage to 70’s horror/slasher flicks and they are able to even made the video look old and cracked the whole way through.

The biggest problem with this film tho is the fact that the story itself isn’t very good and fails to be interesting enough when trying to reach its potential.

The experience that they try to give us as a throwback to films of this genre is done really well even though they end up taking things to the very extreme and absurd.

The cats f this film is quite talented but they aren’t given enough interesting things to do which makes it really difficult to care about any of them at all.

This also takes so much away from the enjoyment of this film since it could have been made even better if the chracters had more significant things to do along the way.

Bottom Line – Completely crazy Zombie film that does what it sets out to do even if it isn’t that enjoyable. From a film making perspective, Rodriguez does an amazing job here, but the story just doesn’t work very well and fails to reach it’s potential.  As a throwback to 70’s horror/slasher films, they do this well despite taking things to the extreme, but still give us the experience that they are aiming at.  The cast is quite talented, but none of them are really given enough to do that would make this film more enjoyable at all.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Rose McGowan has mysophobia (fear of germs) and had to have the stripper pole sanitized before doing her dance routine. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
