“Mario Kart” – Kaye
Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Mar 2019)
Brief Synopsis – A young boy find an ancient sword and believing that he is the true heir to the kingdom of King Arthur sets off on a quest to vanquish evil from the land.
My Take on it – This is a film that I recently heard some nice things about which made me want to see what it was all about.
The premise is actually quite interesting and this is a fair story about taking the Arthurian Legend and updating the story for a modern audience.
They do a nice job paralleling the events of the real story but certain aspects get a bit too strange even when trying to follow that path.
Some of the parts of film work much better than others but unfortunately, it doesn’t manage to become anything more than a cursory example of a childhood fantasy adventure film.
The cast of this film is adequate for what they are trying to accomplish here, but none of them manage to really stand out among the others.
I must admit tho, that it was nice seeing Patrick Stewart show up in this film but even his screen presence isn’t able to elevate this story to even greater levels.
The special effects are done ok but also don’t help to raise the bar on this way this film will be perceived in the future.
Kids (and adults) who are big fans of the Arthurian Legend will probably get the most out of this film.
Bottom Line – Interesting premise that doesn’t manage to be poignant enough to break free of being just an average film. The story does a nice job paralleling the story of the Arthurian legend and updating things for modern times. Parts of the story work much better than others, but it fails to be more than a cursory childhood fantasy adventure film. The cast is all ok here with none of the kids standing out at all. It was nice to see Stewart in this film, but even his presence wasn’t able to make things any better.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The school used in filming was also the secondary school that former James Bond Pierce Brosnan attended when he was a kid. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
