Hereditary (2018)

Brief Synopsis – Following her mother’s death, a women tries to come to grips with the fact that her family has been wrought by insanity over the years which has caused many suicides.

My Take on it – Despite not being a fan of horror films, I decided to give this one a try to see if perhaps I would find something intriguing here.

Uמfortunately, as predicted, this was not a film that I liked at all.

The story itself is a bit too disturbing and since I’m not a huge fan of the genre, I got a bit confused about things along the way that most horror fans would probably enjoy more than I did.

Toni Collette is fine in the lead and I liked the way that they take the time to try and pursue the premise that mental health issues could possibly be very hereditary but the way that things are presented made it quite difficult for me to care about the characters or what would happen to any of them along the way.

They do a nice job with the special effects especially when it comes to animated corpses.

Story-wise, this film fell completely flat for me and I can’t imagine a scenario were I would ever have to desire to see this again.

Bottom Line – Completely not my kind of film. I found the story itself to be a bit too disturbing and it didn’t make as much sense to me as I would have hoped. Collette is fine in the lead and they do a nice job trying to pursue the idea of mental health issues possibly being hereditary yet something just didn’t allow me to really care about any of the characters or what would happen to them. The special effects are done nicely especially when dealing with corpses being animated, but overall, this film just fell flat to me. Not a film I plan to ever revisit.
