“[she and Speer are sharing a drink from a bottle of illegal booze labeled furniture polish] Wow! This really is furniture polish!” – Addy
“Shocking what Prohibition causes some people to drink these days.” – Lt. Speer
Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Apr 2019)
Brief Synopsis – A police lieutenant and a private eye team up to investigate a murder, but their own personal rivalry from years earlier keeps getting in the way.
My Take on it – This is a film that I actually had high hopes for because it teams up Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds.
Unfortunately, the film is horrendous and instead of giving us a competent murder mystery, it tries much too hard to make things humorous that it fails on so many levels.
Eastwood and Reynolds have terrible chemistry together and despite the fact that their characters have a bitter history with one another, it hurts things too much when they can’t interact in a proper way.
The story and plot of this film are completely silly and they try too often to make things appear clever when in reality they are making the story even more laughable than it should be which is quite a shame.
Bottom Line – Terrible murder mystery that tries too hard to be funny instead of giving us a competent murder mystery. Eastwood and Reynolds are horrendous together and they don’t have any chemistry what so ever which hurts things so much. The story and plot are extremely silly and tries to be so clever that in the end it just seems much more laughable than it should be. Quite a shame….
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Burt Reynolds suffered a serious accident and had his jaw broken when he was hit in the face with a metal chair while filming a fight scene on this movie. Reynolds was restricted to a liquid diet and lost over thirty pounds by the time the film wrapped. This accident had dire consequences for Reynolds’ next film project, Stick (1985). In that film, Reynolds looks underweight, weak and thin and this condition was because of this accident. Apparently, this accident led to Reynolds becoming addicted to painkillers. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
