A Private War (2018)

“Your apartment looks like Patrick Bateman’s London nightmare.” – Marie Colvin

Number of Times Seen – 1 (7 Apr 2019)

Brief Synopsis – True story about a female war correspondent who always made sure that she was in the thick of things wherever there were conflicts in the world.

My Take on it – This is a film that I have been quite interested in seeing ever since I saw the trailer back in October.

I was certain that based on the media hype around her performance that Rosamund Pike would get nominated for multiple award nominations or even wins for this role.

The story itself is quite interesting and there is no question about the fact that Pike carries this film all by herself by her performance here.

She manages to play the character extremely well and we see how things change as the events around her begin to escalate.

This film gives us a really nice depiction of the life of a photo journalist who ends up globe trotting to the far reaches of the globe in order to cover war torn conflicts.

The kind of personality needed for such a career is presented well here.

The use of dialogue between the various correspondents throughout the film also helps give us a clear idea of what kind of people choose this kind of life despite the various difficulties that they all must endure in order to excel in such a profession that is in now way simple especially due to the exteremely hazardous situations that they often find themselves in.

Bottom Line – Interesting film that is carried solely by Pike in the lead role. She plays the character quite well as she allows things to escalate more and more. They give us a nice depiction of the life of a photo journalist in the midst of war torn conflicts and we can see what kind of personality is needed for sure a career.  The conversation between the various journalists throughout the film helps us get a much better understanding of the kind of life they choose the lead and the different kinds of difficulties that they face due to these choices.  Recommended!
