Battlefield Earth (2000)

“[bangs his head] Crap-lousy ceiling! I thought I told you to get some man-animals in here and fix it! ” – Terl

Number of Times Seen – 1 (8 Apr 2019)

Brief Synopsis – In the distant future a race of aliens have taken over the Earth and enslaved the population as they try to mine all of the gold ion the planet.

My Take on it – This is a film that I have avoided for nearly two decades since it is widely thought of as being one of the worst films ever made.

It definitely lives up to that expectation since it truly is horrendous from start to finish.

What still surprises me now as it did back then is how talented this cast actually is and how they were able to somehow convince these actors to actually take part in this silly and crazy film.

This film is based on a novel written by the creator of Scientology, so that I guess is a partial excuse as to why some of these actors signed on, but even having John Travolta in this film doesn’t help make things any more interesting or enjoyable at all.

The story and script is really boring and the dialogue is laughable throughout because it’s so stupid.

They do a very poor job with the special effects and that also makes this film look and feel even sillier.

This is a film that is truly atrocious in just about every aspect and there really is no good reason to want to endure watching this film.

There isn’t a low enough rating to give this film, because even a 1 is too high.

Bottom Line – Extremely horrendous film that lives up to the expectation that this is among the worst films ever made.  Surprisingly, the cast is quite talented even if the story and script are hilariously boring.  The special effects are done really poorly and this film is atrocious in every aspect possible and isn’t worth enduring if you have the opportunity to avoid it.  The fact that this film is based on the novel by the creator of Scientology is the main reason that Travolta signed on for it, but he isn’t able to help make this any more interesting with his presence alone.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – John Travolta referred to this film as “like Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) but better” and “the Schindler’s List (1993) of science-fiction films” during publicity. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (1/10)
