Road Trip (2000)

“It’s supposed to be a challenge, that’s why they call it a shortcut. If it was easy it would just be the way.” – Rubin

Number of Times Seen – Twice (17 Aug 2000 and 10 Apr 2019)

Brief Synopsis – After accidentally sending the wrong video tape to his longtime girlfriend, a college student and his friends set off on a road trip to retrieve the tape before it is seen.

My Take on it – This is a film that I recall originally seeing in the theater when it came out and laughing quite hard at some of the jokes they present us with.

Even after nearly two decades, this film is still quite fun from start to finish.

The story itself is pretty absurd and would probably only happen in a teen comedy like this one, but they still find a way to keep things quite fun and entertaining throughout even when they take some of the concepts to the very extreme limit.

Breckin Meyer is great in the lead and the talented supporting cast helps him to keep things quite memorable along the way.

The hi-jinx and predicaments that these characters face are quite funny and entertaining to watch unfold.

The best part is that once a particular scenario is dealt with, we are immediately hit with a new barrage of things for these characters to tackle.

This film is far from perfect yet is still quite enjoyable since it achieves what it sets out to do.

Bottom Line – Such a fun film. The story is a bit absurd but they manage to keep things so entertaining and fun from start to finish even when they take things a bit to the extreme. Meyer is great in the lead and he is helped along with such an enjoyable supporting cast in order to make this film so memorable.  The hi-jinx and problems that these characters need to deal with are fun throughout and they constantly hit us with a new barrage whenever the previous one finishes.  Far from perfect, but still quite enjoyable for what it sets out to do. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Although there is no actual Ithaca University, the writers (Todd Phillips and Scot Armstrong) both are alumni of Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, and the movie is partly based on their time there. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
