Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 May 2019)
Brief Synopsis – After his family is murdered a former cop turned vigilante decides to take down all of the mob families in the city.
My Take on it – When I was a teen in the late 80’s and early 90′, I was a very big comic book fan.
I collected all kinds of titles and I somehow got hooked on the stories of The Punisher and became quite a big fan of Frank Castle and his quest to rid the city of mobsters and crime in his own way.
This film does a nice job translating the comic book feel and look into a movie even if the storyline and characters are al drawn quite poorly which doesn’t allow things to work well at all.
The violence portrayed here is very true to the kind of comic book violence common in the pages of Marvel and they do a nice imitation of it as presented in live action form.
The dialogue is cheesy and quirky and is also quite reminiscent of the kind of dialogue used in comic books.
They excel here in the use of one-liners and puns that fall flat and instead of making the viewer laugh, they make them roll their eyes because it’s just not funny at all.
The cast is mediocre and none of the characters are developed well enough for us to truly care about them.
Bottom Line – Interesting comic book adaptation that looks and feels like a comic book movie yet has a very weak story that doesn’t work well enough. The violence is very graphic and does a fine job of imitating the kind of violence usually portrayed in comics. The dialogue is very quirky and is also quite reminiscent of comic book dialogue especially when it comes to puns and one liners that are just not funny enough so they make the viewer roll their eyes instead of laugh. Cast is pretty mediocre and it’s hard to care about any of them.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – To date, the lowest grossing Marvel film. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
