The Switch (2010)

“I’m ready to do it now. Life is in session. ” – Kassie Larson

Number of Times Seen – Twice (8 Dec 2010 and 17 Jun 2019)

Brief Synopsis – A woman’s decision to choose to have a baby via a donor, causes much conflict with her best friend.

My Take on it – This is a film that I recall seeing not long after it came out yet didn’t remember much about the story or plot.

They are able to create such a fun film here that succeeds in taking it’s premise to the limits which makes it so enjoyable to watch unfold.

Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston are both perfectly cast here and work so well together since their chemistry and comic timing is perfect throughout.

Like in most films from this genre, it’s a bit frustrating that we can see things that the characters are oblivious to the entire time.

Despite this, they are able to keep the story working throughout.

The story moves along at a great pace and keeps things funny the whole time because they know how to get the most out of this kind of premise.

The fact that this film chooses to presents the themes in a relatively toned down way was a good decision because it allows us to enjoy the jokes without things feeling as if they went too far across the line.

Bottom Line – Really fun film that is able to take its premise to the limits and still keep things quite funny. Bateman and Aniston are perfectly cast in this film and they both have great chemistry throughout the film. The story works despite the fact that things that the characters are oblivious to are quite apparent to the viewer throughout which makes things a bit frustrating. The way that the story moves along works quite well and keeps things enjoyable throughout.  They know how to keep this film’s premise relatively toned down which works really well since they stay away from crossing the line which would have dragged things down too much.  Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – After arguing with Kassie, Wally is seen walking in the rain. A truck passes behind him bearing an ad featuring a turkey baster. This is a reference to ‘The Baster’, the short story on which the film was based. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
