Paddleton (2019)

“I can’t be normal through all this, I just can’t. ” – Andy

Number of Times Seen – 1 (20 Jun 2019)

Brief Synopsis – Two best friends must deal with the fact that one of them has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

My Take on it – This is a movie that I knew very little about before watching it besides the fact that it had two great actors as the stars.

I was a bit taken by surprise at the premise when one of them receives the news that he has terminal cancer.

Over the past 18 months, I’ve been dealing with terminal cancer in a loved one and this film hit me hard because of the way that it describes how a friendship so close can be affected by the kind of tragic news.

They do an excellent job showing how a bond can be affected by such news.

Both Ray Romano and Mark Duplass are superb in this film and the chemistry that they have together is amazing because it makes us feel as if they have been so close for such a long time.

Each of them deals with the situation very differently and I could relate to the way each of them react to this newfound situation because it feels so real and personal.

They allow us to see how far a friendship can be stretched when issues like those described here suddenly arise and must be dealt with in some way.

Despite the fact that this film deals with terminal illness, they are able to sprinkle in lots of funny situations and humorous lines to help keep the story from feeling depressing.

These bits help us get to know the characters even better while making us care even more about them and also abour what will happen to them during this journey that they take together.

Bottom Line – Really enjoyable look at friendship and how terminal illness might affect that bond. Romano and Duplass are both excellent here and we can really feel the chemistry between them because they seem as if they have been close friends for years. The way that each of them deals with their newfound situation is quite telling and we get to see have far a friendship can be stretched when issues like this arise. The story is peppered with bits of humor and humorous situations that help us to get to know these characters and care even more about them and about what will happen to them along their journey together. Recommended!
