Brief Synopsis – A young prep school student gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gains superpowers.
My Take on it – As a fan of comic books and superhero stories and movies, I was immediately drawn into this film.
This story is able to find its own voice in the world of superhero stories and they find a way to give us such a fun, exciting and thrilling story that flows so well and works on numerous levels along the way.
The way this film utilizes the various forms of animation is superb and the melding of these variations helps give a distinct look and feel that we can believe that we are dealing with different characters from very diverse dimensions or universes.
They manage to develop these characters extremely well and we get to learn about the differences and similarities between these various “Spider-Men” who can use their strengths to help one another when needed.
This movie won Best Animated Feature at both the Oscars and the Golden Globes and was quite deserving of those awards especially given its tough competition.
This is such a unique origin story and stands out among the many films in the genre.
The message of this film about finding your true self rings true throughout and resonates from start to finish.
I would love to revisit these characters at some point in the future whether they work in teams or solo because they are all so enjoyable to watch.
IMHO, this is the best Spider-Man film ever made and is also my top film of 2018 (by a long shot).
Really can’t wait to get to see this again soon.
Bottom Line – Such an amazing superhero origin film that finds its own voice and is able to give us such an exciting and fun story line that works on numerous levels. The animation is superb and the idea to merge various animation styles together helps make things feel as if we are truly dealing with characters from various dimensions or universes. The characters are all developed quite well that we are able to learn about the differences and similarities between them all yet also see how they can each help one another when necessary. This film was quite deserving of winning both the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature because despite there being so many other origin stories on film, this one still remains unique. I would love to see these characters in another adventure whether together or separately since they all are so enjoyable to watch. This is IMHO the best Spider-Man movie ever made and is by far my favorite film of 2018. Can’t wait to see it again soon!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – If you hit pause anytime a train goes, because all the animators wanted to animate Stan Lee, he’s in almost every single train. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy (10/10) (no change from original review)
