If Looks Could Kill (1991)

“I am not afraid to die. I am not afraid to die. Who am I kidding? ” – Michael Corben

Number of Times Seen – At least three times (Theater in ’91, cable and 8 Jul 2019)

Brief Synopsis – A teenager on a summer trip with his school to France is mistaken for a spy and must try to avoid being enemy spies trying to kill him.

My Take on it – This is a film that I recall seeing in the theater when it originally came out 28 years ago.

I didn’t remember much about the film besides the fact that it involved a story about a teenager mistaken as an international spy.

This is a terrible film that is silly from start to finish and fails to work on any level.

I’m actually quite shocked as to how it ever got “green lit” to be made.

Richard Grieco is horrendous in the lead and isn’t able to help make this film seem fun at all.

The plot moves along in a very strange fashion and fails to make us care about any of the characters since none of them are developed in any way and they all come across as being superficial and bland the entire time.

The spies on the various sides are all portrayed as bumbling idiots and it’s amazing how many stupid things they do throughout this movie.

The film tries to use special effects to make some of the scene more exciting yet, since the effects are done so poorly, it takes away even more from things since it makes things feel even more unrealistic and silly.

Bottom Line – Really silly film that fails to work on any level. Grieco is terrible in the lead and doesn’t help make this film any fun. The plot moves along in a really strange way and doesn’t let us care about any of the characters along the way because they are all superficial and bland. The spies are all portrayed as being complete idiots and do some really dumb things all the time.  The special effects used here are also of pretty poor quality and doesn’t help to enhance the story at all.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The thousands of gold coins made Steranko’s metallurgists were actually chocolate coins covered in gold foil wrapping. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (1/10)
