Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Aug 2019)
Brief Synopsis – A young detective goes undercover in a high school in order to try and prove his brother’s innocence of murdering a teacher.
My Take on it – This is a film that I recall hearing about when it came out, yet never seemed to have much interest in watching it.
It came out in the same year as the TV show 21 Jump Street and they do a much better job with the premise than they are able to do here.
The film is terrible from start to finish and is completely silly throughout.
It fails to work on any level and that is a huge problem.
Arliss Howard is very unconvincing as both a detective and as a high school student and was totally miscast here.
The plot is extremely silly and fails to find a way to stay interesting at all through any aspect of this film’s story.
The mystery that they present here seems too juvenile and lacks any kind of intrigue especially when dealing with a murder plot.
The biggest mystery to me is how this film got greenlit at all because there is absolutely no redeeming factor in the story and is a complete waste of time… thankfully, the film is only 90 minutes long.
Bottom Line – Terrible 80’s undercover detective film that doesn’t manage to work on any level. Howard fails to be convincing as both a detective and as a high school kid and this hurts the film so much. The plot is quite silly and doesn’t manage to stay interesting thru any aspect of the story. Even the mystery is quite silly and doesn’t make much sense as things slowly move along. The mystery that really need to be solved here is how did someone actually greenlight this film and think that it would work on any level.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Nick goes undercover to high school the first day, he is wearing a very similar outfit as the boy he arrested at the beginning of the film. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
