Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Sep 2019)
Brief Synopsis – While trying to find the murderer of a fellow postal worker, a postal inspector gets in contact with the one witness, a nun who is now a new target for the culprits.
My Take on it – For this blogathon, I had to do a bit of research since I wasn’t familiar with any of Alan Ladd’s performances besides his most famous one as Shane (1953).
This is another one of hos films that I had never heard of but both the title and the premise sounded quite interesting.
I really enjoyed the fact that this film looks at a crime from the perspective of a postal inspector.
They do a great job showing things from a noir vantage point that hasn’t been done very often and that helps us see the way that stores can be expanded in varying directions.
Ladd does a wonderful job in the lead role and does a great job making us believe the tough persona that he portrays especially since it’s about a cop never wanting to give up while trying to find a friend’s murderer.
The film has some great dialogue that helps the story stay flowing due to the fact that the dialogue itself helps develop the characters through their conversations.
This film also has a great supporting cast and it was wondrous seeing future crime fighting partners Harry Morgan and Jack Webb teaming up on the opposite side of the law from where we are use to seeing them in Dragnet.
This film’s story has some great twists and turns along the way that help keep things suspenseful and thrilling all the way through.
Bottom Line – Very interesting thriller that looks at things from a slightly different perspective than noir usually gives us. Ladd is great in the lead and really is able to make us believe the tough persona that doesn’t let go when trying to find the culprit. The dialogue works quite well in keeping the story flowing well because the characters all become developed even deeper through their conversations. Loved seeing Morgan and Webb together among the bad guys since they are both more well known for their future partnering together as lawmen in the TV show Dragnet. The story has some nice twists and turns along the way that help keep the story thrilling from start to finish. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Jack Webb and Harry Morgan are partnered here as a couple of thugs. They met while filming this movie and became good friends. They would go on nearly 20 years later to be partners in Dragnet 1967 (1967). (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
