This was a year where there was a clear front runner throughout awards season for this category and many others with everyone thinking that the awards show will be quite boring and monotonous… boy were we surprised…

4. Moana – Great music, but the story is somewhat lacking. IMHO, doesn’t live up to the standards of Disney animation. Parts weren’t as fun and uplifting as they could have been and I think the film could’ve been even better if it had been shortened a bit.
3. Trolls – Fun film that has elements for both children and adults. Felt a bit too much like a Smurfs episode tho. Great musical accompaniment which helps to keep the cheery elements of the film more poignant.
2. Jim: The James Foley Story – Does a nice job presenting the dangerous and chaotic life of the photojournalism profession. We get an intimate look at Foley’s life via intense interviews with family, friends and colleagues. The closing song by Sting is quite poignant but feels tacked on a bit.
1. La La Land – Amazing modern musical that really manages to capture the look and feel of musicals of old. Excellent songs that are immediately catchy and get you hooked so easily. The production is superbly managed and it all fits together so well. The one minor problem is the story itself isn’t as magical as we perceive musicals to be but the message of the film is extremely clear. Stone and Gosling are great together and have lots of fun chemistry. Look for this film to amass lots and lots of awards come Oscar night despite it not being the best film of the year.
Do I agree with the Oscar winner? – Yep! City of Stars is the best song among the nominees and was quite deserving of its win especially given the weakness of the rest of the nominees.

I don’t quite agree with this one, but I think your choice is respectable. Personally I prefer Audition over City of Stars, but they’re both undoubtedly great. My personal favorite though is Moana’s How Far I’ll Go, but I also think the Auli’i Cravalho version is infinitely better than the Alessia Cara version featured in the music video.
