“I wouldn’t jump to conclusions so fast if I were you… pick up your gun.” – Rocky Morgan
Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Oct 2019)
Brief Synopsis – A wandering cowboy shows up in a town where it seems as if the locals are being swindled by a gang who is trying to steal their valuable land.
My Take on it – This is another film that I came across by accident and was curious to see what they would do with such a simple plot that has been used so many times before in order to make it stand out.
Unfortunately the answer to that is absolutely nothing.
The story presented here feels much too boring and fails to bring anything fresh or original to the plot.
They follow the stereotypical story line of these kind of films in the Western genre and never deviates from what we already will expect from them.
The film fails to find a way to inject any kind of enthusiasm by the characters or give the viewer any real thrills and that makes it all a pretty monotonous and boring film to watch unfold.
The cats of this film is fine and both Johnny Mack Brown and Tex Ritter are able to do what is expected of them within the limited script.
The one thing that works in this film is the music.
The songs sung by the characters are enjoyable to listen to and help keep things moving a bit faster in order to alleviate the fact that this is quite a boring movie.
Bottom Line – Really mediocre western that doesn’t manage to feel fresh or original in all that it does. The story follows the expected pattern of this kind of genre and doesn’t manage to find a way to inject enough enthusiasm or thrills into the boring story line. The cast is fine with Brown and Ritter both doing what is expected of them within the limitations of the script. The best part of this film is the songs which at least help things move along a bit faster.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film was released on May 1, 1943, by Universal Pictures. (From Wikipedia)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
