Wonder Woman: Bloodlines (2019)

“[after gazing upon a giant human maze below] I was really hoping the whole “maze” thing was just a metaphor.” – Steve Trevor

Number of Times Seen – 1 (7 Oct 2019)

Brief Synopsis – During to quest to keep humanity safe, Wonder Woman befriends a scientist and her daughter which causes many problems for all three of them.

My Take on it – As a fan of the DC animated universe, I was quite happy to see that they brought back Wonder Woman to the fold after a decade.

This probably has more to do with the success of the live action film, but that actually causes this film to be cut by a double-edged sword.

It doesn’t manage to come anywhere near the level of the live action film and that makes this film seem much more inferior due to the inevitable comparisons.

The story itself is an interesting one, yet they don;t manage to find a way to keep things engaging depsite the fact that this movie has a relatively short run time.

The one thing that the DC Universe can always be counted upon is the fact that they almost always have a great voice cast; this movie is no exception to that.

Rosario Dawson is Wonder Woman, Jeffrey Donovan is Steve Trevor, Constance Zimmer is Veronica, Nia Vardalos is Julia and they even manage to find a small but significant role for Michael Dorn as a Minotaur.

The film unfortunately rushes the story too much and they try too hard to add so much exposition and scenarios that each scene feels as if they need to try and get to the next one as quickly as possible.

This doesn’t leave enough time for the characters and situatins to be developed properly and hurts things too much.

This film has some great action scenes, but overall it is far from being among the best of the films in this series which is quite a shame.

Bottom Line – Interesting story that just doesn’t manage to find a way to stay engaging despite its relatively short run time. As with most of the DC animated films, the voice cast is superbly chosen with Dawson as Wonder Woman, Donovan as Trevor, Zimmer as Veronica, Vardalos as Julia and Dorn as the Minotaur.  The story itself rushes along a bit too much and that has much to do with the fact that they try to cram too much exposition into this film which ultimately makes things feel as if they are too much of a hurry to get to the next scene instead of allowing each scene to develop at a normal and leisurely pace. Not among the best of the films on the series, but still has some great action scenes along the way.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Wonder Woman is able to fly in this cartoon. Normally she flies in a secret jet. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
