Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)

“This is a golden poison tree frog! Can YOU say ‘extreme neurotoxicity’? ” – Dora

Number of Times Seen – 1 (16 Oct 2019)

Brief Synopsis – A young girl brought up in the jungle by her explorer parents is sent to live in the city while the go on a dangerous adventure.

My Take on it – This is a film that I wasn’t sure of before watching it.

The various stories and adventures of Dora that I knew about were geared much more towards children and expected this film to be very juvenile in its nature.

Thankfully, that isn’t the case here.

They find a way to make this film feel like a kid’s version of an Indiana Jones adventure and it stays fun throughout.

The characters are quite interesting to watch as we get to see how they are able to take familiar characters from the various stories and adventures of Dora and slightly age them to hep make them more enjoyable to follow what happens to them.

This film manages to find a voice to speak with both children and adults and each can enjoy things on different levels that still work throughout.

The characters all are able to hold on to the characteristics that we are already familiar with from the stories while at the same time keep things fun and fresh throughout.

The plot of the film plays out really well and the various obstacles that the characters encounters are all very fresh and original and are presented in very clever ways that help enhance the adventure of the story.

Bottom Line – Really fun film that feels like a version of an Indiana Jones story for kids. The characters are all interesting to watch and they do a nice job of showing how the characters from the familiar stories of the series are slightly aged and made quiet enjoyable to watch. The way that the film is able to speak to both children and adults is also great because they are able to keep the characteristics of the characters while still allowing things to stay fun and enjoyable throughout. The plot plays out in a very clever way and allows
things to stay fresh and original in the way that things play out. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Weeks before the film’s release, a pair of red boots were digitally applied to Boots after it was found he wasn’t…wearing any. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
