Number of Times Seen – 1 (28 Oct 2019)
Brief Synopsis – Biography of Patsy Kline a talented country singer who rose to stardom in the early 1960’s.
My Take on it – This is a film that I never heard of before coming across it in my quest to watch all films that have Oscar nominated performances.
They do a great job with this story and the lead performance by Jessica Lange really enhances the way that things are presented about the life of this famous singer.
We get a clear idea of the path she took during her rise to stardom and they show the various steps she was required to take in order to eventually get there.
Lange was deservingly nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for her work in this film.
We also get to see the kind of rocky relationship that she had with her husband who is played by Ed Harris.
The way that her personal and professional life were entwined with one another is shown really well and we get to learn how she was able to try and use this to her advantage as she rose to stardom along the way.
Besides Lange’s performance, we get some great supporting performances along the way.
Harris stands out as her husband and John Goodman shows how even early in his career he can play small yet significant roles that help move the story along.
Bottom Line – Great biopic that works really well due to the spectacular performance by Lange in the title role. She does a wonderful job portraying the singer and we get a clear idea of how she rose so fast to top. Her rocky relationship with her husband is also shown here and we get to see the way her personal and professional life were entwined throughout her rise to stardom. The supporting cast is also great. Harris stands out among them all, but it was also great to see Goodman in a small yet significant role. Lange was deserving nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in this film. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – At one point, Charlie asks Patsy what she’s done all day and she responds, “I’ve been sipping champagne with Kirk Douglas”. When the scene was filmed Jessica Lange actually said, “I’ve been sipping champagne with Rock Hudson”, but Hudson was revealed to have had AIDS before the film was released and the producers thought a reference to him would be distracting. Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
