“My balls are freezin! I never thought I’d say THAT with a smile on my face.” – Jack
Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Nov 2019)
Brief Synopsis – One year after being killed in a car accident, a musician returns to Earth as a spirit inhabiting a snow man in order to help his widow and young son.
My Take on it – This is a film that I recall hearing about when it cam out yet the trailer made it seem a bit too creepy and corny for me.
The sty is actually an interesting one yet they don;t manage to present things well enough for us to really care about the story or its characters.
The cast of this film is great and that also helps things a bit but as great an actor as Michael Keaton may be, he still makes it hard to sympathize with his character who isn’t very believable here.
The special effects are unfortunately done in a way where it truly is quite creepy to watch the interactions between the characters.
This is ultimately a movie that tries to do so great things with a recycled overall premise yet fails in making us care about the characters because it tries too hard to be funny than to develop these characters in a realistic and genuine way which is quite a shame.
Bottom Line – Interesting idea that would have worked better if it wasn’t so creepy to watch. The overall idea works and the great cast also helps, but the interactions between the special effects snowman and the other characters isn’t realistic enough. Keaton does a fine job with the lead but makes it slightly difficult to believe his character. The film attempts to do some great things with this premise yet fails in presenting it in a more enjoyable way.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – George Clooney was originally attached to the project, but when he left to do Batman & Robin (1997), ex-Batman Michael Keaton was cast into the lead role. This caused no end of trouble for Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, because they had designed their snowman animatronic specifically to Clooney’s facial features and acting style. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
