Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Nov 2019)
Brief Synopsis – James Cameron takes us on a journey to the deepest parts of the ocean where along with scientists they try to discover new species of underwater creatures
My Take on it – During James Cameron’s career as director, he has made only two documentaries and both are quite interesting to watch.
This is the more recent one of the two and it allows us the opportunity to get a first hand look at some of the deeper and darkest places on the planet that very few people have had the chance to explore.
I think it’s great that this journey is filled with both space scientists and marine biologists as they try to discover the various kinds of unique creatures that dwell in the deep parts of the ocean.
The film does a nice job showing the connections and correlations between the deepest parts of the oceans and the continued exploration of deep space so that the scientists can use these kind of expeditions as a stepping stone to gaining experience for future space projects.
On the surface of things it may seem as if these two fields have nothing in common, but the way that the explain things helps make it seem even more genuine and plausible that their is some kind of connection between the two.
The film does a wonderful job showing how the quest to find the key to space exploration might actually be via the exploration of some of the uncharted parts of our own world.
Bottom Line – Great documentary that allows us to be in the front seat of a journey to one of the deepest and most remote parts of the Earth. Love that he goes on this journey with explorers and scientists in order to try and discover what kind of creatures dwell so deep in the ocean. The way that the story correlates this kind of exploration with space exploration is great because it is able to make a connection between these two disconnected fields that actually have something in common. Love the way that this film tries to show how the quest to find a key to alien life in space might be by looking deep within our own planet.
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
