Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 Nov 2019)
Brief Synopsis – After an unknown group launches a failed assassination attempt on the President, the secret service agent framed for the attempt must try and clear his name.
My Take on it – This film is clearly the weakest of the trilogy and probably never should have been made because it lessens the effects of the previous two films.
Gerard Butler is a great action hero, but he starts to show his age in this film and it hurts things a bit too much since it takes away from the believability of some things including the overall plot.
The story itself is quite timely and in the current political climate, it can be understood how such a film could be made since it comes across as being somewhat plausible.
Great seeing Morgan Freeman return once again and he once again gives a commanding performance (like always).
The series has been stripped down too thinly with this film and this unfortunately is further proof that they should have left the original film as a stand alone instead of just trying to milk this character for as much as they could, because he truly is as worn down as the audience is getting with this series.
Bottom Line – Weakest of the films in the series. Butler is starting to show his age here and doesn’t manage to keep things believable and interesting with this plot. The story is quite timely and comes across as being quite plausible within the current political climate of the world. Freeman is (as always) great in this film and gives a commanding performance as the President. Unfortunately, with this installment the series has been stripped down too much and is further proof that the first film should probably have stayed a stand alone.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Like with Olympus Has Fallen (2013) and London Has Fallen (2016), Morgan Freeman has openly admitted in interviews that he did this movie mainly for the money. As he explained for the previous two: “Money. It’s the third in a series it pays better than the first one. I get to play the president again, I’m in a successful series, I’m working with a guy I really admire and like. It’s perfect.” When asked whether he still felt “fire in his belly” with regard to acting, he said: “I enjoy it, I still enjoy it. I love making movies, but it’s more like smouldering embers now.” (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
