Brief Synopsis – The God of Thunder is banished to Earth and must find a way to regain his powers while trying to defend Earth from alien attacks.
My Take on it – Of the Avengers, the character of Thor has always been my least favorite and that probably reflects on how I see this origin film and the way that things play out.
This is not one of the best films in the franchise overall but it does find a way to tell the origin story of this character and how he is connected to the MCU and the other superheroes within the series.
Chris Hemsworth is superb as this character and gets the level of arrogance just right in all that h needs to deal with.
Unfortunately the chemistry that he is suppose to have with costar Natalie Portman is quite weak and it remains quite difficult to imagine these two characters having a meaningful relationship.
The story works well largely due to the excellent performance by Tom Hiddleston as Loki who steals every scene he appears in.
Anthony Hopkins is a superb choice to play Odin and manages to play the King of the Gods really well especially since it seems so natural for him to do so.
Bottom Line – Not one of the best films in the series yet it still manages to be a good origin story film. Hemsworth is superb as this character and gets his arrogant personality just right in everything that he needs to deal with. His chemistry with Portman is a bit weak and it’s can be hard to believe that the two of them are meant to be together. The story here works well largely due to the help of Hiddleston as Loki. Hopkins is fine as Odin and plays this character well especially when one takes into consideration that he is meant to be the king of all of the Gods of Asgard. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Sir Kenneth Branagh has been a fan of “Thor” since childhood. When Marvel Studios selected him as the director, they sent him the complete collection of the Marvel Thor comics series as reference material for the character. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10) (upgrade from original review)
