Did They Get it Right? – Best Actress – Oscars 1932

Here are the five nominees: (Winner in Bold)

Marie Dressler (Emma)
Lynn Fontanne (The Guardsman)
Helen Hayes (The Sin of Madelon Claudet)

Biggest Snub:

Marlene Dietrich – Shanghai Express

My Overall Thoughts:

From 1935 and backwards, many of the nominated films are really difficult (if not impossible) to find, so many of these years will have numerous “holes” in my knowledge of the nominees. I realize that it limits my scope, but something are out of EVEN my control.

This is actually a year where I haven’t been able to find copies of any of the performances, so it’s al;l guesswork.  Hopefully, at some point, I’ll find a way to see these films and then I’ll update the guesswork.

My Rankings:

Actress

3. Marie Dressler
2. Lynn Fontanne
1. Helen Hayes

Movies

3. The Guardsman
2. Emma
1. The Sin of Madelon Claudet

Do I agree with the Oscar winner? – No clue, but I guess so!  I haven’t seen any of these 3 films, so I hope that they actually got it right here and can’t really contribute to this debate.

Let me know what you think about these films and my rankings!
