Brief Synopsis – The remnants of the resistance try to find a way to survive while being chased by Kylo Ren and the First Order across the Galaxy.
My Take on it – This is perhaps my favorite film in the new trilogy and that has much to do with the fact that it feels as if they found a way to return to the original story, the characters and the overall atmosphere of the original trilogy and it shines through here.
The story in certain ways is a continuation of the story told at the end of that trilogy.
This film does a great job joining together new characters with all of the ones that we are already familiar with from the previous films and finds a way to bring the whole Skywalker saga to a close in a competent and satisfying way.
The film has some great action scenes which help give us an even greater understanding about the extensive training that all Jedi are required to master.
Loved the way that this film throws in a bunch of great twists and turns along the way that help enhance the story by making things feel even less predictable than one might expect.
The story deals with some great themes and we get to see how they present the ideas of redemption, perseverance, honor and friendship so effectively which are running themes throughout the series.
Love the way that they find it imperative to tie up as many loose ends as they can from the previous films and they actually do it so well that it truly makes one wonder what Disney will do now that they have brought the Skywalker thread to a close because this is such a rich universe the create new and exciting adventures in.
The film knows how to keep things bittersweet because they found a good point to end this series on instead of trying to have it drag on for so many years.
The story fits really well into the overall Star Wars story line and is quite worthy of being part of this franchise.
The film utilizes great special effects and music which add a whole new level for appreciating this kind of story since it all feels as if they are seamlessly integrated into the story line.
Bottom Line – Excellent addition to the Star Wars series. It actually feels the most like a film that continues the story of the original trilogy than any of the other films in this current trilogy. Great seeing new characters join together with the returning ones in helping to bring this story to a close. The action scenes are done really well and give us an even greater understanding of the kind of extensive training required to be a Jedi. The story throws in a bunch of nice twists and turns along the way that helps make things less predictable and more impactful. The story is filled with messages about redemption, perseverance, honor and friendship which rings so true throughout. The way that the story ties up many of the loose ends in the overall story line is done really well and makes one wonder where Disney will take these stories in the future because this particular thread seems to have ended in a bittersweet way since it’s understandable that there is no need to make this go on forever while creating a story that fits well into the series as a whole. Amazing special effects add so much to the way that the story is presented and it all feels integrated seamlessly. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – During the massive crowd celebration scene, C-3PO says that this event happens once every 42 years. This was the time between the first Star Wars movie to be released in 1977 and this film. (From IMDB)
