“There’s something going down, and it’s big, and they were not happy about what he found.” – Lionel Essrog
Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Jan 2020)
Brief Synopsis – An associate of a private detective who suffers from a form of Tourette’s Syndrome tries to solve the murder of his former boss.
My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve been interested in seeing ever since it was announced last year that Ed Norton was going to star and direct in it.
I didn’t know anything about it and was quite intrigued by the overall look of things.
Norton is able to once again show how great a director he can be and it’s a shame that he hasn’t given us more films directed by him.
THis film has a really enjoyable and intriguing mystery that works quite well.
The dialogue and characters are great and the added bonus of a very talented cast helps make this even more fun to watch unfold.
The pacing of the story is perfectly done and they give us some really enjoyable twists and turns along the way that help make the story even more interesting to watch as things move along.
Some of the plot points that they deal with are a bit too predictable but they still don’t hurt things too much.
Love the fact that they chose to set this film in the 1950’s in order to give it the look and feel of a noir story since it helps keep things nice and fresh as we begin to understand what is really going on in this mystery.
Bottom Line – Once again Norton shows how talented a director he can be with this very enjoyable mystery. The cast is spectacular and help keep things quite thrilling throughout. The story moves along at a great pace and the added bonus of numerous twists and turns along the way help keep thing even more engaging as they unfold before our eyes. There are a few plot points that are a bit too predictable but they don’t hurt things too much along the way. The choice to have this story take place in the 1950’s, helps keep the noir aspects of things feel quite fresh as we slowly learn what is truly going on. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Edward Norton met and consulted many members of the Tourette’s Association of America to prepare for the role. The film has received approval from the organization as well. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
