Perfect (1985)

Brief Synopsis – A report for Rolling Stone magazine decides to do an expose on how health clubs have become the new place to meet singles in the 80’s.

My Take on it – This is a film that I recall hearing about when it came out in the 80’s yet never had much of a desire to see what it was all about.

Being that I’m currently trying to watch more films starring John Travolta, I decided to give it a try.

Unfortunately this is a horrendous film that fails to have any good points to it.

It probably resonated much more clearly when it came out due to the themes presented here.

Both John Travolta and Jamie Lee Curtis look amazing in this film and that is probably the best selling point for this film because once the plot begins to be played out, there is nothing to do but watch these characters move about.

None of the characters are developed well enough here and they all come across as being quite superficial in all that they say or do.

It’s quite hard believing Travolta’s character is an investigative reporter and things seem more like a farce than anything else.

Don’t get me started on whether it’s possible to take any of this story seriously.

The film’s story and plot are strange and things drag along too much too often to be effective.

The story attempts to gain more momentum via the T&A of the characters but the lack of a solid plot or reliable characters makes things even more difficult to take in.

The 80’s aspects of the film are the most enjoyable parts since they obviously have lots of great 80’s music and fashion peppered throughout the film.

Besides that, this film is a complete and utter bore-fest.

Bottom Line – Terrible film that probably resonated much better when it was made. Travolta and Curtis both look great here but besides that, the film has no merits what so ever. The characters are all much too superficial and the way that things play out seems too much like a farce than as a serious journalistic piece. The story drags along a bit too much and tries to gain momentum via T&A instead of via a solid plot and characters. The 80’s music is lots of fun to listen to and the 80’s styles are nostalgic but overall this film is a complete dud in all that it attempts to do here.
