The Last Full Measure (2019)

“Justice delayed is justice denied. That’s my damn agenda.” – Tulley

Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Jan 2020)

Brief Synopsis – Based on the true story of a how a group of Vietnam Veterans lobbied the government to give a fallen soldier the most prestigious honor one can receive for performance in combat.

My Take on it – This is a film that I heard about a few months ago and was quite interested in seeing due to the fact that it sounded so fascinating a subject.

The message of this film is quite poignant and it resonates throughout because it is so moving.

The added fact that this story is based on the true heroics of one man during battle and the efforts of his comrades in arms to memorialize that heroism helps make this story even more engaging and compelling throughout.

The film sports an amazing cast and I loved the way that so many talented and recognizable actors were willing to take on small roles in order to help make this story even more memorable to watch unfold.

The pacing of the plot is quite good and through flashbacks, we slowly begin to learn about what truly happened on that day decades earlier.

Once things begin to become even clearer as to what happened, it adds so much more poignancy to the story because we get to see the kind of actions of simple men when placed in a situation where they choose to go beyond the call of duty in order to do the right thing even under heavy enemy fire.

This film allows us to see the effects of one man’s heroics on so many lives and how the men saved are willing to do all they can to give the proper recognition for what occurred that day.

Bottom Line – Great story that is quite moving in its message. The fact that it’s based on truth helps make things even more engaging and compelling. The cast is amazing and its so nice to see so many talented actors taking on supporting roles in order to help make this story more powerful. The plot moves along at a great pace and as we slowly begin to learn more and more about the events of that day, it makes things even more moving because we get a much better understanding of how men act under fire and how some of them will do things even beyond the call of duty when necessary. Recommended!

  1. Really good review! I haven’t heard a lot of people talking about this movie, as your review is the only one I’ve read. What’s interesting about this film is how it flew under the radar, spending a month or less in the theater. I might check this film out, as it does sound compelling. But, at this point, it’ll have to be a rental. Do you think ‘The Last Full Measure’ will be released on DVD around Memorial Day?
