“Let me ask you something. You’re gonna put these good people in jail because they’re proud of their country? Is that right? You got my lawyer on the phone? Standing by. You got bail money? With interest. Send ’em up!” – John Gotti
Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Jan 2020)
Brief Synopsis – Biopic of notorious gangster John Gotti who was a top figure in the New York mafia.
My Take on it – This is a film that I decided to check out solely due to the fact that it stars John Travolta.
I had hopes that with his help, this story could have potential to work really well, but it fails to do anything to raise up the film.
This is truly a poorly executed mafia biopic and it shows right from the start.
Travolta’s performance here is quite mediocre and doesn’t let his character feel as powerful and influential as he is suppose to be.The story is told in a very choppy fashion and they don;t find a way to make this character sympathetic at all and it’s hard to care about him or anything that he does.
The biggest problem that this film faces is the fact that when comparing this story to the story of mafia films, this seems much too tame and boring which in essence reveals a weakness fr the real mafia.
The story as presented here is extremely boring and not much actually happens here that is interesting to watch.
This is quite a shame and in the end is a huge waste of time for the viewer.
I guess there is a reason that this film has a 0% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes….
Bottom Line – Poorly executed mafia biopic. The way that Travolta plays this character doesn’t work well also and things don’t feel powerful enough. The story is quite choppy and doesn’t move in a way that makes us care about the character or anything that he does. The biggest problem here is that this story shows the weakness of the real mafia as compared to the ones depicted in movies. The story is boring and nothing of interest happens throughout the run time which is a real shame and a waste of time. There’s apparently a reason that this film has a 0% approval on Rotten Tomatoes…
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Quite possibly setting a new world’s record, the film had 58 producers. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (1/10)
