Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Jan 2020)
Brief Synopsis – With Aurora’s upcoming nuptials with Prince Philip around the corner, her connection to Maleficent begin to become strained causing much havoc in the kingdom.
My Take on it – This is a film that I have never had any desire to see.
Unfortunately, (for me), it was nominated for an Oscar for Best Costume Design and in my attempt to watch every nominated film at the Oscars on a yearly basis, I felt compelled to finally check this film out.
This is a terrible sequel which fails to add enough to the original story line.
The story of Sleeping Beauty is in and of itself quite magical, but the decision to focus on the misunderstood Maleficent just doesn’t work well enough.
Angelina Jolie is back in the title role and does a very mediocre job with it.
She isn’t able to make things in the story more interesting o watch unfold especially when neither she or any of the other characters are sympathetic enough.
The film utilizes its special effects in a very strange way that fails to add much to the story which is already overbearing enough as is.
The costumes are somewhat unique and I can sorta understand how this film could get nominated in that category, but that doesn’t help make this movie any more interesting to watch.
This movie is definitely a sequel that didn’t need to be made and the fact that it doesn’t add anything helpful to the well known fairy tale is quite a shame.
Let’s all hope that they don’t decide to make another film in the series.
Bottom Line – Horrendous sequel that doesn’t do the story of Sleeping Beauty any justice at all. Jolie does a mediocre job reprising her role as the misunderstood sorceress and fails to make things even more interesting to watch. The special effects are strangely done and don’t manage to add much to the already overbearing story line. This is definitely a sequel that never needed to be made because it doesn’t add enough to this fairy tale as one would hope and expect. Let’s hope they stop after this one.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Released in the 60th anniversary year of the original Sleeping Beauty (1959). (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
