“In times of real trouble, the one thing man can depend on is the sympathy of the bank. ” – Captain Mike Turner
Number of Times Seen – 1 (4 Feb 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A group of treasure hunters try to salvage what they can from the sunken cruise ship while also taking aboard some of the survivors.
My Take on it – This film is meant to be a sequel to The Poseidon Adventure (1972) even though the characters don’t really correlate between the films.
This is a terrible film that fails to make any real sense along the way.
The cast though is spectacular and if one would normally see a cast list like this, one would suspect that this would be a super success.
Sally Field, Michael Caine, Telly Savalas, Peter Boyle, Jack Warden, Shirley Knight, Shirley Jones, Karl Malden, Slim Pickens, Veronica Hamel, Angela Cartwright and a very very young Mark Harmon all appear here and each and every one of them is wasted because of the silliness of it all.
I assume that most of them signed on solely for the paycheck without even caring about the story or plot.
This film meant to try and cash in on the success of films in the disaster genre and on the original film in the series, but instead they present a story that is a total waste of time since nothing of interest happens at all and it’s so difficult to acre about the characters or what will happen to them along the way.
Bottom Line – Horrendous film that makes so little sense, The cast is spectacular and most of them signed on just for the paycheck. The special effects are quite weak and make things look even less realistic than they should. This film seems to have been made solely to try and cash in on the success of the genre and the film that this is a supposed sequel to, but in the end it’s truly just a waste of time because nothing of interest happens here that would help make us care about the characters or the situation that they find themselves in.
