Genre Guesstimation – Planet Hulk (2010)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Bubbawheat of Flights, Tights, and Movie Nights and we will be reviewing our favorite Animated Comic Book/Strip Movies.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Feb by sending them to animatedbubbawheat@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Bubbawheat!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Animated Comic Book/Strip Movies..

“I’m not dead. I’m just mad.” – Hulk

Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Feb 2020)

Brief Synopsis – After The Hulk is banished from Earth due to his rage, he lands on a Planet that is ruled by the laws of the Gladiator where he must fight for his survival.

My Take on it – The Hulk has never been among my favorite Marvel superheros and the MCU has helps a bit in highlighting his various strengths and weaknesses as a character.

The fact that they only made one solo film about his character also says so much about his potential as the focal character.

I’m a HUGE fan of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and was quite pleasantly surprised when I learned that certain aspects of the film were connected to the comic that this film is an adaptation of.

This film is actually further proof that it is possible to find some new and exciting avenue in order to focus on The Hulk and let his character shine due to his various strengths (including strength) in a gladiatorial arena.

The story does a great job showing how gladiators need to constantly adapt to their surroundings as things are always in constant motion.

Loved seeing some of the characters from Ragnorak in this film and they add so much to the development of Korg and Miek which actually helps get an even better understanding of who they are.

IN addition, this film (If you pay attention carefully) has some great cameos of other Marvel characters who happen to appear in the audience of the arena during some of the battles. (See Trivia Section below).

Bottom Line – Another great Marvel animation adaptation.  Presents the Hulk in a great light that shows that even with characters like his, they can create really enjoyable and exciting story lines.  Love the gladiator aspects of this story where we get to see how these characters must constantly adapt to their surrounding in order to survive. Loved seeing Korg and Miek which adds so much to what is already known about them. Great cameos throughout the film (if you look quickly) (see Trivia Section below.) Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The Marvel comic characters Star Lord, the Grand Master, Adam Warlock, Gamora, and Pip the Troll all appear in the crowd or behind the Red King in the arena where Hulk fights throughout the film. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Comes close. Such a great story that works so well and even presents certain aspects better than the live action film was able to do.

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
