Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Feb 2020)
Brief Synopsis – The characters from the previous movie re-enter the world of Jumanji and must play a whole new game in order to get back home.
My Take on it – This is a film that I wasn’t entirely sure if I wanted to watch it or not because usually sequels don’t manage to live-up to their predecessors.
This film is actually an exception to that rule because they really do a great job keeping this so much fun.
The story is played out really well and they manage to find a way to keep things enjoyable the whole way through.
The way that things are set up allow for them to raise the level of suspense to heights even higher than in the original.
They have an added bonus here of allowing some of the actors here to show their talent and range by having them embody various other characters at different intervals.
The story truly feels like a video game and the way that things move along works so well in giving these characters some really thrilling and suspenseful scenarios for them to overcome during their quest.
There are a few very far fetched aspects of this film (the horse???), but despite them, they still find a way to keep things enjoyable to watch unfold.
They were able to reunite all of the main characters from the original film and also find interesting ways to integrate some new ones into the story who help set the tone for things.
This helps make the message of the film even more poignant as they deal with issues related to friendship and the pros and cons of growing older.
The cats is once again great and the two Danny’s (DeVito and Glover) both help add so much to the way things are dealt with here.
Bottom Line – Really fun sequel that is surprisingly done quite well. This film manages to raise the level of suspense from the first film in ways that one might not suspect. Enjoyed the way that this film gives us the added bonus of allowing some of the characters to show their range based on which “other” character is embodying them. The story is played out really well and it seems as if they have created a very thrilling and enjoyable video game scenario for these characters to have to traverse. The film has a few slightly far fetched aspects (including a horse), but things still work well in spite of this. Love the way that this film is able to reunite the characters form the previous film and at the same time introduce some new ones who help set the tone for things in order to relay some great messages about friendship and the advantages and disadvantages of growing older. The cast is superbly chosen and the additions of The two Danny’s helps things so much here. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Saw one of the fastest turnarounds from filming to theatrical release for a major studio film. Filming did not begin until February 2019 and wrapped four months later in May, for a December release only seven months later. Most films complete filming nearly a year before their release. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
