Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Feb 2020)
Brief Synopsis – After discovering that she has Breast Cancer, a woman and her husband must deal with the bureaucracy and medical system that goes along with her treatments.
My Take on it – This is a film that as soon as I saw the premise knew that I would have to watch.
My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer 2nd half years ago and have been in treatments ever since.
This film gets so much right which shows how much care went into it in order to keep the details so realistic throughout.
The performances by Leslie Manville and Liam Neeson are both superb and we can easily believe everything that they are going through right with them.
This movie takes us to a very personal and intimate place which feels so real as we get to see how these characters must deal with the new realities of their lives following a diagnosis of cancer.
It was quite amazing watching how much this film gets right about the way that patients and caregiver’s lives are changed by this cruel disease.
What’s fascinating is the way they show how certain aspects of their lives are changes while other remain unchanged as they struggle to find a balance in their lives.
The side effects that need to be dealt with are both physical and emotional ones and this film shows how things are manifested in their lives and must be dealt with constantly.
Both my wife and I felt a strong connection to these characters and what they must deal with and could relate to so much of what happens here on a very personal level.
Bottom Line – Very moving drama that gets so much about this premise right. The performances by Manville and Neeson are both superb and it’s so easy to believe that they are going through these difficulties right there with us. We are shown characters who feel so real and allow us into an intimate place as we see how they deal with the new realities of life that they are faced with. The story gets things so right about how much this cruel disease changes people yet keeps them unchanged at the very same time while struggling to cope with the side effects that manifest both physically and emotionally both withing the patient and the caregiver simultaneously. REcommended!
