Brief Synopsis – After inheriting a boat from a deceased uncle, a businessman and his family decide to take a trip on the boat in the Caribbean before selling it.
My Take on it – This is a film that I had never heard f before coming across it during my search for films to watch for this blogathon.
This somewhat surprised me since I have always enjoyed films with Kurt Russell and with Martin Short, yet don’t recall ever hearing of this one.
This is a really fun film that works well due to the comic timing of both of the leads who enhance things so much.
The characters are enjoyable to watch and they develop them really well so that we can really care about what happens to them along the way.
The journey that these characters take is really fascinating to watch unfold and the mix of drama, adventure and humor is done really well.
There are lots of funny things that happen to them along the way and that helps keep things quite entertaining the whole time because it is so fun.
The plot of the movie is a bit thin, but that doesn’t hurt things too much because of the fun atmosphere of it all.
In addition to his great chemistry with Russell, Short also has realistic chemistry with his on screen wife plays by Mary Kaye Place and we can really believe that they are a couple who are attempting to have as much fun as possible while still trying to remain true to their job as responsible parents despite all that happens around them.
Bottom Line – Really fun film that works so well due to the comic timing between both Short and Russell. The characters are all developed really well and that allows for us to get so involved with everything that they encounter along their journey. The various things that happen to them are quite funny and they find ways to keep this story so entertaining from start to finish even if the overall plot is a bit too thin. Short and Place also have great chemistry and we can truly believe them as a couple attempting to have as much fun as they can while still remaining as responsible as they can along the way. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – At one point regarding the debate over the existence of guerrillas Martin says “what did you do grow up in Disney Land” Ron states “never heard of the place”. Ron (Kurt Russell) was in many of the Disney Movies as he was growing up. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
