Brief Synopsis – The CDC and the WHO try to stop a worldwide epidemic that is killing millions at a seemingly unstoppable rate.

My Take on it – This is a film that I saw a few years ago and due to the recent world wide CoronaVirus outbreak, I decided to check it out again (just like so many other movie lovers).

This film does a great job of depicting the way that a worldwide epidemic could so easily spread and since it is more relevant to most people in the world today than it was when this was made 9 years ago, it is both scarier and more informative to watch.

This movie has an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Elliot Gould, John Hawkes, Marion Cotillard and Bryan Cranston but they still find a way to stay focused on the main character – the virus itself.

They play out a scenario where the world is set on a quick and easy path toward self destruction as they show how rampant looting and crime rises while people are put in quarantine and rules of martial law.

They show us the social aspects of these decisions and things come across quite realistic.

There are lots of differences between the virus in this film and the current one that is spreading around the world so anyone watching this should take that into consideration and not overreact.

I’m glad that this film does show that there acn be a light at the end of the tunnel and that is the best message that people should take from this movie especially while being constantly bombarded by the hourly news updates.

Bottom Line – Great depiction of how a worldwide epidemic can easily spread.  Love the way that this film stays focused on the main character, the virus and allows the superb cast to all be supporting. The film is able to show the simple path to world self destruction especially from a social perspective as quarantines, martial law and looting and crime goes on the rise.  The film does show that there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel and that is what people should always look at when watching the daily news of how Corona is spreading.  Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia #1 – To promote this film, Warner Bros. Pictures Canada built two giant Petri dishes treated with bacteria and fungi and set them in a Toronto storefront window. Over several days, the bacteria and fungi specimens grew to spell out the name of the film and form biohazard symbols.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia #2 – Viewership rose for the movie in early 2020 when a virus (a new coronavirus provisionally named then as 2019-nCov, and now known as SARS-CoV-2, responsible for causing the disease COVID-19) began to spread throughout China, with a few contained cases in other countries. Rating – ??? Worthy (??/10) (no change from original review)
