Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Apr 2020)
Brief Synopsis – Mike and Marcus must work together again to try and stop a renegade assassin who seems to be eliminating all of the people related to a certain events years earlier.
My Take on it – This is a film that has been highly anticipated for quite a long time.
Unfortunately, the wait wasn’t truly worth it, because it fails to work as well as the two previous films did.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have amazing chemistry together but in this film, their ages actually show and there isn’t as much energy here as they had in the first two installments of the series.
That might have to do with the fact tho that their characters are much older and aren’t filled with as much energy as they had beforehand.
The story comes across as seeming quite predictable and that hurts things a bit because it takes away from making this more enjoyable or interesting to watch.
The movie has some really fun action scenes that allow us to see the potential blockbuster status that a film of this caliber might have, but something falls short the whole way through.
The fact that it was released in January says so much because usually films with the blockbuster status premier in the summer.
It seems that someone (the studio perhaps) didn’t really think that this movie’s story is as spectacular as they would have hoped and chose to release it at this point in the year which, in and of itself, already says so much…
Bottom Line – Full movie that unfortunately just doesn’t work as well as one might hope. It’s great seeing Smith and Lawrence back together again, but the energy that they had together in the previous films just doesn’t manage to work in this one largely due to the huge gap since the last installment and the fact that these characters are much older. The story is a bit too predictable and isn’t as interesting as it probably could have been. They do have some really fun action scenes that allow the film to try and show off its blockbuster status but even the people who made this knew it wouldn’t resonate so well by releasing it in January instead of In the summer like most potential blockbusters.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – At one point in the film, Will Smith’s character jokingly refers to AMMO, the sidekick crew, as a “High School Musical boy band.” Vanessa Hudgens (Kelly) rose to fame from playing Gabriella Montez in the High School Musical films. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
