Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Apr 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A band of miniature aliens living inside a spaceship that looks human try to get a better understanding of the people of Earth while planning on stealing the salt in all of the oceans.
My Take on it – In my quest to try and watch more Eddie Murphy films, I came across this one which I vaguely recalled hearing about yet never had any real interest in seeing what it was all about.
I should have stayed clear away from it.
This is a terrible film that fails to work on any level.
None of the jokes in the film are humorous in any way and the way that they present the plot and characters is quite silly.
Murphy, as an alien comes across really wooden and stiff and despite the fact that it is suppose to be like that, it drags things down even further.
The film has a great cast that is completely wasted here.
Besides Murphy, this film stars Ed Helms, Gabriella Union, Scott Caan, Elizabeth Banks and Kevin Hart and unfortunately none of them are given anything substantial enough to do with these characters and situations.
The premise of this movie never gives us a reason to care or even believe everything that happens and that makes things quite boring.
There are even a few cases where this becomes even painful to watch since nothing really interesting ends up happening at all.
This film is truly a complete waste of time and it’s in the running of being one of Murphy’s worst films and performances in my opinion.
Bottom Line – Another horrendous Murphy film that doesn’t work at all. None of the jokes are funny and the plot and characters are all pretty silly in the way that they are presented. As an alien, Murphy comes across as being quite stiff and wooden and despite that being part of the point, it drags things down even further. The film wastes a great cast inducing Murphy Helms, Union, Caan, Banks and Hart. The premise never seems to find a way to make us try and believe things and that makes it so boring and in some cases painful to watch because nothing of interest happens at all. Complete waste of time and is definitely in the running as one of Murphy’s worst films and performances.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Co-writer Bill Corbett originally pitched this idea to SciFi.com as a possible web series. (From IMDB)
