This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!
“[confiscating Larry’s phone] They call them smart phones, but only dummies use them in my class.” – Dr. Matsutani
Number of Times Seen – Twice (4 Sep 2011 and 4 May 2020)
Brief Synopsis – After losing his job, a middle aged man decides to try and start over by getting a college degree.
Bottom Line – Fun film that is enhanced by the performances of Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. The story itself is done pretty well and allows us to really see the kinds of changes that these characters make in their lives over the course of the film. This is a film that Hanks also wrote and directed and this helps him embody this character so well the whole way through. Cranston does a great job in a fun supporting role even though his character isn’t the most likable one in the cast. Really liked the way that this film is able to present a different way of a character dealing with a mid-life crisis than most films do. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – After being given the news that he was going to be cast as the husband of Julia Roberts’ character, Bryan Cranston went on an accelerated workout and diet regiment. He also bleached his teeth white. Cranston claimed it was an attempt to come as close as possible to convince people that his character would be married to someone like Roberts, by having a younger looking character. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
