Thunderheart (1992)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“[to Levoi] You better watch yourself around here. I’m the FBI… Full-Blooded Indian.” – Richard Yellow Hawk

Number of Times Seen – At least Twice (Cable in the 90’s and 8 May 2020)

Brief Synopsis – An FBI agent who is half Indian is sent to help investigate a murder on an Indian Reservation.

Bottom Line – Pretty mediocre crime drama that tries too hard to focus on the ethnic aspects of the story and fail to make the murder investigation more enjoyable to watch. The cast is filled with some great actors including Val Kilmer and Sam Shepherd, but even they can’t help make things more interesting to watch. The crime investigation feels a bit too by-the-book and simple and isn’t able to be more engaging.  The attempt to focus more on the ethnic background of the characters also doesn’t work well enough because it feels far too superficial in its presentation of things.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – During the early to mid-Seventies, there were fifty-seven unsolved murders on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation due to the fighting between the “Traditionals” and Tribal government sanctioned “goons”. This made the Village of Pine Ridge (Pop. 1100) the “Murder Capitol of the Nation” with the highest number of violent death per capita in the United States. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
