The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“Friends are the family you choose.” – Carl

Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 May 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A young developmentally disabled man runs away from his group home in order to fulfill his dream of being a wrestler.

Bottom Line – Great premise that just doesn’t work well enough. Zack Gottsagen does a wonderful job with his role and helps make his character feel so genuine, but the rest of the cast doesn’t help make things more enjoyable to watch unfold. Bruce Dern is superb in a supporting role and steals every scene that he is in. The story goes into some pretty crazy places and that takes away so much from the potential of this film.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The movie came about because the directors met Zack Gottsagen at a camp for disabled and non-disabled people and he expressed his desire to be a movie star. So the directors wrote the script around him and Zack’s hopes and dreams that bled into the script and people they knew who would allow them to film for free and without permits. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
