Hacking Democracy (2006)

“How can a computer that is suppose to protect the votes of you and me, count backwards to give the candidate negative votes? Either is was an error or someone had tried to rig the election.” – Narrator

Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 May 2020)

Brief Synopsis – Documentary that tries to dive into the issue of whether electronic voting machines can be counted upon or whether they are just being used in order to change election results.

My Take on it – This is a documentary that I came across by accident and was drawn to based solely on the title.

As a fan of political intrigue, this film does a wonderful job of showing the pluses and minuses of using electronic voting machines in our changing world.

They raise some very legitimate questions about the effectiveness and reliability of these machines and makes one wonder what is really happening behind the 1’s and 0’s of these voting machines.

The film utilizes some very clever investigative method in order to try and find a way to get to the truth behind it all.

Love the way that this film is able to integrate so much footage of real politicians and election officials because it help accentuate the fact that this is such an important issue and how imperative it must be to find a way to get to the bottom of this issue and discover the truth.

Really like the way that they do their best to stay as non-partisan as possible with things and show how both political parties have contributed to the potential problems that this film uncovers.

Being that this film was made nearly 15 years ago, I’m sure much has changed since then, but it’s still quite interesting to watch how it all plays out back then.

Bottom Line – Powerful documentary that tries to show us many of the pluses and minuses of the way that electronic voting machines have become mainstream. They raise a very profound question as to the reliability of these machines and use some very clever investigative methods in order to discover the truth. The use of footage by election officials and candidates helps show how important an issue this is and also shows how imperative it is to get to the bottom of this issue. Recommended!
