Human Capital (2019)

“Heh, so real estate agent… I mean, I thought that was a job for divorced middle aged housewives.” – Godeep

Number of Times Seen – 1 (20 May 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A tragedy binds two very different families together.

My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident and had actually never even heard of beforehand.

The cast looked great and that drew me in to choosing to watch it right away.

Unfortunately this is a really boring film that doesn’t work at all.

They try to utilize the Rashamon Effect to tell a story from multiple viewpoints, yet it ends up making even less sense due to the way that they present things.

The story constantly feels far too choppy as things move along and that is a huge problem.

The cast is actually quite talented with Liev Schrieber, Marisa Tomei and Peter Sarsgaard in key roles yet none of them are given enough to do with their characters in order to make things more enjoyable to watch.

None of the characters in the story are developed well enough so we can’t care about them or anything that may happen along the way.

The dialogue between the various characters doesn’t work at all and it all feels far too flimsy the whole time.

The plot itself has far too many holes in it and that also makes this film such a chore to try and get through because it doesn’t always make enough sense.

Bottom Line – Really boring film that tries too hard to use The Rashamon effect to make things seem more interesting. In actually, it hurts the story because things feel far too choppy along the way. The film has a great cast yet none of them are giving enough to do in order for us to care about what happens in the story which is a shame. None of the characters are developed at all and that also hurts thing far too much. The dialogue is presented in a very flimsy way and this leaves the plot far too open to too many holes
