Brief Synopsis – Based on the true story about how famous mime Marcel Marceau worked in the resistance in France during World War II in order to help save Jewish Orphans.
My Take on it – This is a film that I had never even heard of before coming across it by accident.
The story told here is quite amazing and the fact that it is not well known about what famous mime and actor Marcel Marceau did during the war is such a great discovery.
Jesse Eisenberg is perfectly cast in the lead role and is able to let us see the emotions of his character who wants to entertain yet realizes that it is more important for him to help get these children to safety.
His character is also quite heroic in what he was willing to do in order to help those he knew and loved during such a powerful time in history.
The script is great and allows us to get a clearer idea of the events as they move along.
The story feels quite personal and that helps make things even more powerful and poignant to watch.
Some of the dialogue is extremely powerful from a historic perspective and that helps the message of this story resonate even nearly 80 years after these events transpired.
This is not a fairy tale and they never shy away from the barbarism of the Nazi’s and their collaborators yet find methods to keep things quite suspenseful throughout.
This story shows the way that a very talented actor and mime could have his life and world shaped by these events is shown quite powerfully and that helps make this film so entertaining and emotional to watch unfold.
Bottom Line – Amazing story that surprised me because it was unknown. Eisenberg does a wonderful job in the lead role and we can really feel how emotional and heroic his character was during such a powerful time in history. The script is great and there are numerous elements that help make thing feel even more personal as the story moves along. Some of the dialogue is quite powerful and poignant in its message that still resonate nearly 80 years after these events occurred. The story is suspenseful and they don’t shy away from showing some of the barbaric methods used by the Nazis against their enemies. The way that the story shows how a talented actor and mime’s life could be shaped by such events is quite powerful and emotional to watch unfold. Highly Recommended!
