Lost in Yonkers (1993)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“[after his Aunt Bella randomly charges out of the house in tears] See why I don’t like to come here too often?” – Jay

Number of Times Seen – Twice (Cable in the 90’s and 3 Jun 2020)

Brief Synopsis – Two teenagers are sent to live with their grandmother and aunt while their father earns a living.

Bottom Line – Fun story that is perfectly set up by Niel Simon. The atmosphere feels quite nostalgic throughout and helps create memories of the past. The cast is great and Richard Dreyfus really stands out here in his role here. The way that things play out works quite well and allows us to be transported back in time to an era where people needed to deal with the Depression. The way that this family becomes closer over the course of the story comes across quite realistically and helps make things so enjoyable to watch unfold. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Irene Worth won the 1991 Tony Award (New York City) for Supporting or Features Actress in a Drama for “Lost in Yonkers” and recreated her role in the movie. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
