“Well ain’t that a bitch… All I wanted to do was to sail my boat, man, you know? Navigate by the stars, see dolphins race alongside, you know, maybe even kill a few of them. ” – Cisco
Number of Times Seen – Twice (28 Nov 1999 and 4 Jun 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A group of very incompetent criminals plan a kidnapping but things never seem to go the way they want it to.
My Take on it – This is a film that I saw more than twenty years ago and didn’t recall anything about it besides the main cast.
I now understand why..
This was a terrible film that makes so little sense and is just one bad decision followed by another for all of these characters.
The story is told in a very choppy way and things seem to jump around a bit too much.
None of the characters are developed on anything more than a superficial level and that makes it so difficult to care about any of them.
The cats is filled with some very talented actors like Mark Wahlberg, Lou Diamond Phillips, Avery Brooks, Christina Applegate and Bokeem Woodbine yet none of them are given anything interesting to do here.
The one bright spot here is the special effects and they are able to create some really spectacular explosions but even though they are quite loud and bombastic they aren’t able to elevate this really silly movie to something much more enjoyable.
Bottom Line – Horrendous film that makes so little sense. The story is quite choppy and they fail to develop any of the characters on more than a superficial way. The film sports a very talented cast yet none of them are given anything interesting to do and that makes it more difficult to care about anything. The special effects are quite bombastic and the explosions are really big and loud here but even that can’t help make this story more interesting.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Keiko was originally supposed to be a high school student, intentionally as an homage to Asian schoolgirls in animé cartoons. However, certain powers that be found it to be too risqué, and she is now a college student in the film. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
