The Police Connection (1972)

“It’s people like you that make our world filthy my friend. You’re a pig! Did you hear what I said? Tell me.” – William Dorn

Number of Times Seen – 1 (8 Jun 2020)

Brief Synopsis – Two detectives must try and find a rapist who may know the identity of a man setting off bombs in the city.

My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident and the premise sounded intriguing.

They actually are able to tell a gripping and thrilling story even though it doesn’t work as well as it probably could have.

The story is presented in a pretty campy fashion and that’s a bit of a problem.

They fail to develop the characters enough and both the good guys and the bad guys feel like stereotypical characters instead of something deeper.

This makes it so much harder to care about any of them or anything that they do.

The plot is quite unoriginal and has been used numerous times both before and after this film was made and that also takes away from the impact that they potential could have had.

The best part of this film is the cast and they help make things worth watching.

Vince Edwards, Chuck Connors and Neville Brand are all great here despite not having much to work with.

They all help make things a bit more thrilling and suspenseful as the story unfolds.

Bottom Line – Intriguing idea that doesn’t work as well as one might hope. The story feels a bit too campy in the way that it presents things which is a bit problematic. The characters aren’t developed well enough and that also hurts things because it makes things so much more difficult to care about everything going on. The story itself feels a bit too unoriginal in the way that it presents things and that also takes away from any real impact that this story can have. The cast is actually what makes this film worth watching because Edwards, Connors and Brand are all able to make things feel a bit more thrilling and suspenseful as the story unfolds.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Also released under the title The Mad Bomber. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
