The Cured (2017)

“They’re connected in a way that we can never understand. ” – Cantor

Number of Times Seen – 1 (9 Jun 2020)

Brief Synopsis – Following a zombie apocalypse, the people who were infected try to get better both on a physical and psychological level.

My Take on it – This is a film that I heard about a few months ago and was quite interested in seeing based on how much I enjoy Zombie films.

The idea of showing how cured zombie deal with being reintegrated into society while also dealing with the deeds they have committed is a truly fascinating one.

Unfortunately, this film fails to make this kind of premise more enjoyable and that’s a real shame.

The film’s use of these people as a group looked down upon by society while forging prejudices and stigmas against them is an intriguing look at things, but the way that things are presented is done in a poor way and there is little reason to care about any of these characters or the situations they are in.

The added fact that this film is largely populated by completely unknown actors makes it even harder for them to focus on some kind of anchor in order to follow through on the overall idea.

THe story moves along at a really slow pace which also hurts things because it doesn’t allow for the viewer to get more involved in what is happening and it ends up dragging things down too far.

Bottom Line – Great premise that just doesn’t work well enough. The idea to show how cured people who were Zombies deal with the prejudice and stigmas of being reintegrated into life is a fascinating idea, but they fail to give us a reason to care about these characters. The largely unknown cast also hurts things because it’s quite difficult to find a character that we can anchor ourselves to in order to follow through with this idea. Things move along at a really slow pace and that also drags things down too far.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Ellen Page allegedly bought the entire production crew pancakes on the last day of filming. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
